Trader Joe’s Wine | Zinfandel

I’m still on a mission to find wine alternatives that are of decent quality, accessible to the masses, and are reasonably priced. Trader Joe’s has a great wine section with a number of wine varieties and at every price point. Finding the best wine at TJ’s isn’t easy, but I’m determined to do so. I decided to stop in to my local TJ’s and grab this bottle of Zinfandel to try out for y’all and well uummm, I’m not a fan. At all. However, just because I didn’t enjoy it (I took 3 sips and aborted the mission, ASAP) doesn’t mean you won’t. Take a look at my review below.

Producer: Trader Joe’s
Trader Joe’s is a neighborhood grocery store with a great selection of wine to choose from. The Coastal brand is Trader’s Joe’s wine brand.
Variety: Zinfandel
Zinfandel is a still wine named after the zinfandel grape. The zinfandel grape is grown throughout the state of California.
Region: California, Central Coast
Year: 2022
Price: $5
Trader Joe’s Coastal wines have a price point between $5-$10
ABV: 13.7%
Look/Color: Red
Smell/Nose: Black Pepper, Blackberry, licorice, black currant
This particular bottle is VERY spicy.
Taste/Palate: Low Sweetness, Medium alcohol, Medium body, High acid, Medium tannin, Dry
Serve: Room Temperature (59-64 degrees Fahrenheit)
Pairing: REMINDER: Food effects wine! The taste of your food can alter the taste of the wine you choose. This Zinfandel is dry, high in acid, and spicy so you want to pair it with food that is spicy (well seasoned) and acidic to make the wine less dry and acidic. This type of food will enhance the fruity flavors of the wine.
Food Options: Red meat, Barbecue with a sweet/spicy rub or marinade, Turkey (perfect for Thanksgiving), Blue Cheese, Grilled cheese sandwich, Kale Salad

I love a good high quality of Zinfandel that is little more fruity and smoother than this bottle from TJ’s. If you like a dry and spicy wine, then this is a great choice for you at a great price.

Which wine is your go to when shopping at Trader Joe’s?

xoxo,
Starr
