Black women really are magical. No for real. Is there really nothing we can’t do?? I don’t think so. The problem is, not everyone is exposed to this knowledge. The BIGGER problem is not every BLACK woman knows their magic, sees their magic, or even believes in their magic.
To be clear, a black woman’s magic encompasses the beauty, power and resilience we all hold, as defined by the #blackgirlmagic phrase creator CaShawn Thompson. CaShawn goes on to explain, “I say ‘magic’ because it’s something that people don’t always understand. Sometimes our accomplishments might seem to come out of thin air, because a lot of times, the only people supporting us are other black women.”
For the record, women, in general are forces to be reckoned with. However, I make it my duty, as a black woman, to first look to a black female creator, curator, artist, designer, and, or business owner whenever I have a need. I take extreme pride in building a team full of BLACK. GIRL. MAGIC! And you better believe that I’m sharing all of their goodness….When I know, you know.
It’s too often that we don’t get the recognition we deserve, the funding we qualify for, or the platform we’re worthy of. It’s up to black women, to push other black women to the forefront and market them, support them, acknowledge them, share them, and most importantly, spend their money with them.
Black women are out here killing the game, taking over all industries, and saving lives. Literally! Recognize your own magic and celebrate the women around you. Sprinkle it everywhere.

I recently moved to California, from Texas, if you didn’t know. But I bet you do know (or have maybe heard) that everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes closet spaces. I’ve gone from a huge walk in closet to a sliding door closet with one hanging bar. I know, first world problems. Anyway, I have for a long time worked on living a minimalist-ish life. With the decrease in closet space, I knew that the easiest place to start was my wardrobe.
I’ve wanted to create a capsule wardrobe for years, because truth be told, I much rather prefer a simple life, but I love fashion! I am sometimes consumed by it! Lately, I haven’t really cared much. I think I got a glimpse of my need for clothing as I was packing, unpacking, and unpacking some more, and found a number of items that still had price tags!
I knew that building a capsule wardrobe would be a task but I’m up for the challenge, and I’m starting slow and small. Working a capsule wardrobe means more time for things that really matter, and less time making decisions on frivolous things. Truthfully, the majority of my morning routine is deciding and “un-deciding” what to wear for the day.
First, let me explain what a capsule wardrobe is. It’s a compact wardrobe made up of staple pieces in coordinating colours–usually around 30 items or fewer, including shoes and sometimes even accessories. These pieces are timeless classic pieces, that can transition from season to season, year after year. That is the original idea of a capsule wardrobe, but things have changed especially with our need and desire to have STUFF. I can only hope that one day I can get to 30 items or fewer.
Let’s do this together. I’m new to this and will need your help just as much as you’ll need mine. Join me in the Spring Wardrobe 10x10x10 Challenge. 10 outfits, 10 days, and 10 items. The challenge will start on April 18th, for 10 days, weekdays only. I’ll post steps and instructions here.
The first step to get us started is 3 fold:
- Purge your closet the best to your ability – this may take some time, so grab some tea or wine, crank up some tunes and get to work!
- Pin away – Create a Pinterest Board of Spring wardrobes that catch your eye. Use this as a guide to streamline your style/preferences and choose looks that are similar to items you already own.
- Shop your closet – Really push yourself to not purchase any new items for this challenge. Use what you already own. The goal is to minimize and ultimately save some coins.
These first 3 steps will help to get us started. I’ll be back next week to share what I’ve done and provide the next steps to prepare us for the challenge!
Personal Style Tip: White tee shirts are staples!! Grab a few with the perfect shape, fit, and neck and build an amazing wardrobe from it.
Good luck, y’all!

Give them the Boot(ie)!
Judging by the date on the calendar, Fall is here. Judging by the sweat on my brow, it’s still hot as the dickens! Let’s slow down on pulling out the turtlenecks and leather skirts, unless you’re interested in experiencing the effects of a heat stroke. HOWEVER, their is good news! We might not be ready to pull out the suede thigh highs, but we can always sport a cute little ankle bootie. Regardless of the weather booties can be worn with skinny jeans, short shorts, skirts, dresses, you name it, there is a bootie to match with it. I’ve linked my exact booties below and a few similar pairs for the ones that are sold out.
Happy Shopping, y’all!

CAPSULE WARDROBE RED-Y….MAYBE
I’ve been thinking hard about a capsule wardrobe. I LOVE clothes, shoes, and everything in between, but I have too much stuff! I mean, when you pull a dress out of your closet and think to yourself how cute it is, but can’t remember ever buying it, then you may have a problem. #Firstworldproblems
With that being said, I
will may work with a Capsule wardrobe for the spring. I’m still doing a bit of research, and have found this blog to be very useful. To get a bit of practice, I created a few outfits from this amazing red sweater I scooped from Old Navy, using the items I have in my closet. Some of these pieces, you have seen before in previous posts. I guess that helps build that capsule wardrobe I’m speaking of!
Option #1: You will see a lot of leopard in the next few options, but what can I say, it’s the perfect neutral.
Option #2: I can’t tell you how much I love all things plaid!! throw the red sweater on top of this plaid shirt, or wear the sweater alone and tie the shirt around your waist. Either way works!
Option #3: I’ve used this bag for everything from a carry on, to a computer bag, to my every day bag. It’s reversible, inexpensive, and comes in every color imaginable. I like to pair this outfit with a pair of brown tights when it’s a bit cooler.
Option #4: This H town weather has not afforded me many opps to wear my OTK (over the knee) boots, but when I get the chance, it’s on! This exact clutch sold out, but I’ve seen them everywhere if you are looking to add one to your wardrobe.
Option #5: I love scarves, but it as previously mentioned, it hasn’t been cold enough in Houston to wear them. I can’t wait for those 2 weeks of winter! Mixing stripes and leopard is a new found love of mine.
Option #6: I love what a leopard print brings to an outfit. It matches nothing but goes with everything! When in doubt, throw in a bit of leopard to take your outfit up a notch.
What I love most about all six of the above options is that they are not hard to put together and most pieces can probably be found in most of our closets, yet they still look put together. That’s also a reason why I love the idea of a capsule wardrobe.
I hope this motivates you to attempt to live a minimal life, (at least in your closet) if you don’t already. I’m not sure how successful I will be in executing a capsule wardrobe, but one can only hope.
p.s. – I created these outfits using the Stylebook App. Get into it. It has been a time saver for me.

I love Fall Fashion like no other! I love it so much that I’ve already put away my summer clothes and it’s still well into the nineties here in Houston. I think the REAL reason I put my summer clothes away is to make room, in my closet, for the new Fall pieces I recently purchased.
If you live in a city, like me, where it doesn’t get too cold, but it’s cold enough, then your winter wardrobe is more than likely not that extensive. Typically, what I do is add a few accessories and maybe one or two sweaters to my closet, every year, to freshen up the things I already have. I don’t splurge on boots since the weather doesn’t really afford me the opportunity to wear them very often.
I’ve picked up a few fall pieces and I’d like to think that I’m done, but we all know how that goes. Anyway, I’ve included a few of my most loved items that have recently found their way to my closet. I hope you like them as much as I do.

BACHELORETTE ON BOURBON ST.
My beautiful cousin married the love of her life last weekend and we celebrated her last days as a single woman in New Orleans, the weekend before. Even though we spent more hours on the road than in Nawlins, and my car was towed when I returned home to Houston, it was all worth it! The food was worth it, the hand grenades were definitely worth it, and the music had me twerking (my version of twerking) all night! Worth it!
The bride requested that we wear black, white, or a combination of both, so I went for the all white, a decision that was not very smart when roaming the streets of Bourbon, but I worked it out. Unfortunately I took no pictures but you can see a bit of my white romper in the pic, above.
Check out my Saturday Night Nawlins get up. I’m aware that the romper is white and I know it’s Post Labor Day, but if you live in a city with weather similar to Houston, and you don’t care about rules, you can rock this white fit like I did! I’ve included the links to my exact items and similar pieces you can score, along with the cute weekender I packed them in!

FOUR FRIDAY FAVES – STATEMENT NECKLACES
I am so completely behind on the #4FF, it’s RIDIC! My life has been crazy busy with bachelorette parties, weddings, Sorority stuff, etc. Nevertheless, I’m here and so are my Four Friday Faves!
Statement necklaces are a must have for every female and can dress up all wardrobe selections. One of my favorite ways to wear one is with jeans and a tee. Picking just 4 of my faves was hard work, so I just chose what I like in a statement necklace and included the features in the options that I have included below. Take a peek…
Garland Brooch Collar – I have recently fell in love with the collar style necklace. This particular style is very regal and feminine and easy on the pockets! This baby from Bauble Bar comes in additional colors, as well.
Tassel Statement Necklace – So tassels are everywhere right now and what better place than around your neck. Not to mention, the color of the Carolee necklace below is a statement in itself. Ummm and the bling! Who doesn’t need a little sparkle on their chest?
2-Row Statement Necklace – So, I know Summer is over, and we are storing away pastel colors in preparation for Fall/Winter, but soft colors always make me feel like a girl. Double Row necklaces add more drama to your statement necklaces, as well. Grab this one now and store it away for next Spring if you don’t want to wear it now.
Gun metal layered Necklace – I can’t begin to explain the love I have for this necklace! The size, the sparkle, and the shape are to die for. This necklace works well with everything!!! Shop Adornments Boutique and pick this beauty up along with a few other pieces. They are having a crazy good sale, right now.

NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE IS HERE!
The day we’ve all been waiting for!!!! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Not Christmas. It’s the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!! Well it’s kind of Christmas. It’s Christmas in July and, for you, I have a few of my favorite things!
The Anniversary sale is special because Nordstrom gets its Fall items in store before other retailers and marks the price down, up to 40%, for a little over 3 weeks. Once the sale is over, on August 3rd, all of those Fall items are marked back to regular price. This is a great time to get your Back to School pieces and/or check a few people off of your Christmas list; the real Christmas in December…well, you know what I mean.
The Anniversary Early Access started today, July 9th, and will continue through July 17th, for card holders only. ME!! On July 17th the sale is open to the public and will end August 3rd.
Great brands like Joie, Vince, Rag & Bone/JEAN, Current/Elliott, Helmut Lang and many more, are at discounted prices. AND, if you are in Houston, there is a double whammy!! I literally just got the scoop from my friend, ex-coworker (did I mention that I used to work at Nordstrom), and shopper, that The Houston Galleria has been chosen as a select store, which means the designer pieces, like Balenciaga, Valentino, etc, are marked down an additional 15%!! I mean….I’m kind of speechless. I’m just going to leave that juicy juiciness, right there.
I’m an accessories girl, I don’t think that I have as much as I would like, so I’m always in the market of increasing my inventory. I feel that you can change the feel of any outfit with the right accessories. With that said, I’ve included a few of my favorite pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, to get you started. There are soooooo many things that I like, these are only from the first 3 pages!
- Kate spade new york ‘cedar street – monday’ crossbody bag
- Nordstrom Reversible Cape with Fringe
- Kendra Scott ‘Arden’ Station Cuff
- Max Mara ‘Ariella’ Reversible Double Face Wool Wrap (Nordstrom Exclusive)

EFF YOUR BODY SHAME!
So this is me…I’m reaching, I know, but I have a reason for plastering bathroom bikini selfies all over the world wide web, and it’s not thirst. Just keep reading…
I have been searching for a leopard bikini since I was allowed to wear a bikini and lo and behold, I walk in Target and there it was! It was like the Bikini gods opened the white sand beach heavens for me. You will never know the excitement in my soul when I laid eyes on this baby. Fast forward to my mom’s house. I tried the kini on, over my knickers, of course, which explains the green ruffles you see peaking through the bottoms. Sidebar: Ladies, you never know the places these bikinis have been, and to be quite honest (and sanitary), you don’t want any of those places making their way to your place, if you know what I mean.
Of course I had to snap a few pics for my girls, cause that’s what we do. I mean, I look good, don’t you think?? I thought so, too, until I actually realized that I’m in the minority with that thinking. Let me break it down for you. I’ve been skinny all of my 33 years (34 on August 10th. gifts are accepted) of life, well except maybe here…
Anyway, for the most part, I’ve always had a small frame, that’s simply the way God created me, yet, for some reason, I’m still the object of the “you need a sandwich”, “you’re so skinny” “you need to gain weight” remarks. I am often asked, with a straight face, “do you eat?” Ummmm, no actually I don’t. I don’t drink, either….I’m kinda not breathing right now….I’m a robot. Of course I eat!
More often than not, I have been shamed because of my weight and size. It’s not always intentional and may come from a good place, but I can tell you that it doesn’t always feel good to hear someone call you a “Skinny Bitch.” No really, that’s not a compliment. It’s body shaming is what it is and body shaming is never okay.
As humans, with any sense of compassion, we would never approach an overweight person and tell them “OMG! You’re so FAT!” Nor would we ever call them a “Fat Bitch”. So why do we think it’s okay to tell someone that they are too skinny? Is it because society has conditioned us to believe that skinny is pretty? Are we all programmed to think that because you are skinny, you should be “lucky”? And, who are we to tell another person how they should look, anyway?!
This is a subject I touch on quite often, because it’s a constant in our lives. We see it on television, we hear it in our music and we instill it in our little girls. Hating our bodies isn’t something we decide to do, it’s taught. We should encourage women and young girls to love the skin they are in. Instead of shaming one another, let’s teach each other how to love, care, and respect our bodies.
“You don’t encourage people to take care of their body by telling them to hate it.” (Laci Green)
Let’s collectively work on discouraging body shaming of ALL women. We are all made in His likeness and He is perfect!
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. – Psalms 139-14

SUNNY SAN DIEGO….I JUST MIGHT MOVE HERE….NO REALLY…
I have to have the best luck ever to have close friends who live in the best city in America. I try to make it my mission in life to make a visit out to San Diego, at least once per year, to get away from the hot humidity box that is Houston. However, my last trip to Diego forced me to realize how much of a love hate relationship I have with humidity. It’s great for my hair and skin, but not so good for my clothes….I sweat. A lot.
Anyway, because I have no grasp on practical packing, I stuffed my carry on to capacity with clothes, and bikinis, that pretty much went untouched.
To shop the pieces that I forced into this carry on, take a look at a few of the exact pieces I packed and items similar to the pieces that are unfortunately sold out.
