My Top Grocery Store Wine – #1 Josh Cellars

The entire topic and discourse around wine can be classist, but it doesn’t have to be. Enjoying a decent bottle of wine doesn’t have to cost a ton of money but neither should it compromise on quality. You can grab a pretty nice bottle of wine from your local grocery store, or even a gas station (that’s a perk of living in Northern California) that’s not garbage.

I have a few wine brands that I grab from the grocery store and sometimes Seven Eleven, when I’m in a rush or don’t want to spend a ton of money. Let’s get into it…

Brand: Josh Cellars
Josh Cellars is a popular premium American table wine with a wide range of wine varieties in whites, reds, and rose.
Variety: Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio) Vintage 2016
Pinot Grigio is a still wine named after the grape, pinot gris.
Price: $12
Josh Cellars wines have a price point between $12-$25 with a magnum bottle at $45.
ABV: 13%
Look/Color: White
Smell/Nose: Pear, honeydew melon, lemon, ginger
Taste/Palate: Medium sweetness, Medium alcohol, Light body, High acid, Dry
Serve: Chilled (45-50 degrees Fahrenheit
Pairing: Food effects wine! The taste of your food can alter the taste of the wine you choose. Pinot Grigio is dry and high in acid so you want to pair it with food that is salty and acidic to make the wine less dry and acidic. This type of food will enhance the fruity flavors (Pear and honeydew) of the wine.
Food Options: Cucumber salad, Garlic & Olive Oil Pasta, Fish, Chicken enchiladas

I prefer the Sauvignon Blanc from Josh Cellars but I purchased the Pinot Grigio to make a pasta sauce. I poured a glass of the leftover wine and actually enjoyed it. Ion my early wine drinking days, I preferred white wines over red wines and Pinot Grigio was my variety of choice due to its sweetness. As my palate has changed and matured a bit, I gravitate towards more reds and dryer whites like Sauvignon Blanc, however, I will add this PG from Josh to my collection.

Have you tried wines from Josh Cellars? If not, grab a bottle on your next grocery store run and let me know what you think?

xoxo,
Starr
