In honor of Black History Month, I’m combining my love for being Black with my love for a great bottle of wine and providing you with my top 10 Black owned wine labels. Please note that this is not a conclusive list and will and can change at any moment. BUT right now, these are the brands that I’m loving and I’ve provided links for you to purchase. You’re welcome! This week, I’m giving you 5 of the top 10. Disclaimer: This list is in no particular order. So, let’s get into it.

*Domaine Curry
– Founded by Ayesha Curry and Sydell Curry-Lee
I put an asterisk by this brand because it’s a little tricky. Although the founder are two beautiful Black women, the brand has been recently acquired by a non-black owned company. I’ll let you decide how you want to take that in. However, I still felt that these women deserve credit where credit is due. In full transparency, I have not tried Domaine Curry, yet, but it is on my buy list, and I really want to try the Sauvignon Blanc.
Tasting Notes: Orange Blossom, Passionfruit, Guava, Gooseberry, White Gummy Bear , Honeydew Melon, Graphite, Citrus
Theopolis Vineyard
– Founded by Theodora R. Lee
I love the personal story of Theodora; from a lawyer to wine maker. The Petite Sirah is my favorite is my favorite varitey from this vineyard.
Tasting Notes: Deep fruit, florals and intense spices with layers of black brambly raspberry, damson plum, blueberry and kirsch along with cracked peppercorns, tapenade, mineral and cedary toast wood accents.
P. Harrell Wines
– Founded by Paula Harrell
Paula is a San Francisco native and shows her love for her city in the names of her wines. Broadway Street is a delicious sparkling wine and perfect for hot summer days.
Tasting Notes: Brioche and a hint of berry, with bright citrus
IBest Wines
– Founded by Ingrid Best
The grapes for IBest wines are from South Africa. Currently IBest wines has a limited edition of wine labels for their red and white blends combining Ingrid’s love of art with her love of wine. I’m partial to red wine, so I’m excited to pop the cork on this one.
Tasting Notes: Black Currant, Black Cherry, Red Rose Tea, Jasmin, Peppercorn, Cumin, Clove
McBride Sisters
– Founded by Robin McBride and Andréa McBride John
Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorite summer wines and the McBride Sisters came through with this fresh make of sunshine in a bottle.
Tasting Notes: Tropical fruits, white flowers and zesty citrus, passion fruit, mango, fuji apple and key lime.
That’s all for now. check back next week for the remaining 5 Black owned wine labels that tickle my fancy. Have you tried any of these brands?
Cheers,
Starr
