Makeup has never been my thing. I actually didn’t start wearing it until my late 20s but I’ve grown to gain a bit of appreciation for it and have enjoyed learning more and more. Over the years I’ve found my staple items and very seldom do I move away from what works. I like to keep my makeup soft and natural while creating a great “skin” base. It’s all trial and error, honestly, and I’m just trying to figure it out. It’s especially difficult when you have sensitive skin. It’s also challenging finding the right tones as a Black woman. Although more brands are starting to recognize the need for a large range of tones (Thanks RihRih), they still haven’t gotten it quite right. That is why I have decided to stick with the brands that work best for me. Most of those brands have been created by Black women, such as Pat McGrath, Danessa Myrick, and Fenty Beauty. Non-Black brands that get it right are Laura Mercier, Nars, and Bobbi Brown.
